Crochet Frost Post Ripple Square

Materials:

  • Worsted Weight yarn in 3 contrasting colors (Color A, Color B, Color C)
  • Size G hook (4.25mm)
  • Yarn needle (To weave in ends)

Finish Size: 6”h x 6”w inches

Different Stitches:

1 dc in next st color changing to Color B or C-Yarn over, insert hook in specified st, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull thru 2 loops, yarn over with new color, and pull thru last 2 loops on hook.

Incomplete Front Post Double Treble (IFPDT)-Yarn over 3 times, insert hook from front into side of specified st going behind st and then back to the front of your work, yarn over, pull up a loop, [yarn over, pull thru 2 loops] Do this 3 times.

Combined Front Post Double Treble (CFPDT)-Yarn over and pull thru all 3 loops on hook.

Front Post Treble (FPT)-Yarn over 2 times, insert hook from front into side of specified st going behind st and then back to the front of your work, yarn over, pull up a loop, [yarn over, pull thru 2 loops] Do this 3 times.

Directions:

Rnd 1: With Color A ch5, join with sl st to first chain to form ring, ch2, 12 dc in ring, join with sl st to first dc.

(12dc) (Beginning Ch2 does not count as dc)

Rnd 2: Ch2, 1 dc in same st as joining, 1 dc in next st, 5 dc in next st, [1 dc in each of the next 2 sts, 5 dc in next st] Do this 3 times, join with sl st to first dc.

(28dc) (or 8dc and 4 groups of 5 dc) (Beginning ch2 does not count as dc)

Rnd 3: Ch2, 1 dc in same st as joining, 1 dc in each of the next 3 sts, 5 dc in next st, [1 dc in each of the next 6 sts, 5 dc in next st] Do this 3 times, 1 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st color changing to Color B, join with sl st to first dc.

(44dc) (Beginning ch2 does not count as dc)

Note: On Rnd 4 you’ll be working into stitches on Rnd 3 and Rnd 2; so follow the directions very carefully.

Rnd 4: Ch1, 1 sc in same st as joining, skip next st on Rnd 3, 1 IFPDT in 5th dc of 4th group of 5 dc on Rnd 2, 1 IFPDT in 1st dc of 1st group of 5 dc on Rnd 2, yarn over, pull thru all 3 loops on hook (CFPDT formed), 1 sc in each of the next 5 sts on Rnd 3, 1 IFPDT in same dc as last IFPDT, 1 IFPDT in 5th dc of 1st group of 5 dc on Rnd 2, yarn over, pull thru all 3 loops on hook (CFPDT formed), 1 sc in same st on Rnd 3 as last sc, 1 sc in each of the next 5 sts on Rnd 3, skip next st on Rnd 3, 1 IFPDT in same dc as last IFPDT, 1 IFPDT in 1st dc of 2nd group of 5 dc on Rnd 2, yarn over, pull thru all 3 loops on hook (CFPDT formed), 1 sc in each of the next 5 sts, 1 IFPDT in same dc as last IFPDT, 1 IFPDT in 5th dc of 2nd group of 5 dc on Rnd 2, yarn over, pull thru all 3 loops on hook (CFPDT formed), 1 sc in same st on Rnd 3 as last sc, 1 sc in each of the next 5 sts on Rnd 3, skip next st on Rnd 3, 1 IFPDT in same dc as last IFPDT, 1 IFPDT in 1st dc of 3rd group of 5 dc on Rnd 2, yarn over, pull thru all 3 loops on hook (CFPDT formed), 1 sc in each of the next 5 sts on Rnd 3, 1 IFPDT in same dc as last IFPDT, 1 IFPDT in 5th dc of 3rd group of 5 dc on Rnd 2, yarn over, pull thru all 3 loops on hook (CFPDT formed), 1 sc in same st on Rnd 3 as last sc, 1 sc in each of the next 5 sts on Rnd 3, skip next st on Rnd 3, 1 IFPDT in same dc as last IFPDT, 1 IFPDT in 1st dc of 4th group of 5 dc on Rnd 2, yarn over, pull thru all 3 loops on hook (CFPDT formed), 1 dc in each of the next 5 sts on Rnd 3, 1 IFPDT in same dc as last IFPDT, 1 IFPDT in same dc as first IFPDT of Rnd, yarn over, pull thru all 3 loops on hook (CFPDT formed), 1 sc in same at on Rnd 3 as last sc, 1 sc in each of the next 4 sts on Rnd 3, join with sl st to first sc.

Rnd 5: Ch2, 1 dc in same st as joining, 1 dc in each of the next 6 sts, 5 dc in next st, [1 dc in each of the next 12 sts, 5 dc in next st] Do this 3 times, 1 dc in each of the next 4 sts, 1 dc in next st color changing to Color C, join with sl st to first dc.

(68dc) (Beginning Ch2 does not count as dc)

Note: On Rnd 6 your working into stitches on Rnd 5 and into the CFPDT on Rnd 4. Follow Directions carefully.

Rnd 6: Ch1, 1 sc in same st as joining, skip next st on Rnd 5, 1 FPT in first CFPDT on Rnd 4, 1 sc in each of the next 8 sts on Rnd 5, 1 FPT in next CFPDT on Rnd 4, 1 sc in same st as last sc on Rnd 5, [1 sc in each of the next 8 sts on Rnd 5, skip next st on Rnd 5, 1 FPT in next CFPDT on Rnd 4, 1 sc in each of the next 8 sts on Rnd 5, 1 FPT in next CFPDT on Rnd 4, 1 sc in same st as last sc on Rnd 5] Do this 3 times, 1 sc in each of the next 7 sts on Rnd 5, join with sl st to first sc.

Rnd 7: Ch1, 1 sc in same st as joining, 1 sc in each of the next 9 sts, (1 sc, ch2, 1 sc) all in next st, [1 sc in each of the next 18 sts, (1 sc, ch2, 1 sc) all in next st] Do this 3 times, 1 sc in each of the next 8 sts, join with sl st to first sc.

Finish off and weave in ends.
