Crochet Ladybug & Flower Appliques

Coordinated sewing thread and needle to sew on T-shirts as desired

Ladybug
Body
With A, chain 4.
Round 1: Work 7 double crochet in the 4th chain from hook (skipped chains count as first double crochet), change to B in last double crochet, with B, 2 double crochet in same chain, change to A in last double crochet – 10 double crochet. Join with a slip stitch in first skipped chain.
Round 2: With A, chain 2 (counts as half double crochet), half double crochet in same stitch as joining, 2 half double crochet in each of next 7 stitches, changing to B in last half double crochet, with B, 2 half double crochet in each of next 2 stitches, changing to A in last half double crochet – 20 half double crochets. Join with a slip stitch in 2nd chain of beginning chain-2.
Round 3: With A, chain 2, half double crochet in same chain as joining, half double crochet in next stitch, (2 half double crochet in next stitch, half double crochet in next stitch) 7 times, change to B in last half double crochet; with B, (2 double crochet in next double crochet, double crochet in next double crochet) twice, changing to A in last double crochet – 24 half double crochet and 6 double crochet. Join with a slip stitch in 2nd chain of beginning chain-2. Fasten off, leaving an 8” tail of B.
Black line on back
Working on back side of body with yarn needle, weave black end to center of body. Insert crochet hook from right side into center and pull up black loop. With black section at bottom, insert hook back into body in red section directly above black section about ¼” away and pull up another loop, pulling loop through loop on hook (surface chain made). Work about 3 more surface chains across in a straight line up to edge of body, splitting red section in half as shown in photo – 4 or 5 surface chains. Fasten off.
Head
With B, chain 3.
Round 1: Work 6 double crochet in 3rd chain from hook. Fasten off. Sew flat edge of head (beginning chs and last double crochet) to top of body above surface chains as shown in photo.
Antennae
With B, chain 8. Fasten off, leaving long ends. Weave antennae through top of head. Weave long tails back through antennae chain and sew into back of head to conceal.
Finishing
Weave in all ends. Sew 2 buttons on each side of line on red body section with sewing needle and thread. Pin ladybug to shirt as desired and stitch in place.
FLOWER
With either C or E, (center of flower), chain 2.
Round 1: (right side) Work 10 single crochet in 2nd chain from hook – 10 single crochet. Join with slip stitch to first single crochet. Fasten off.
Round 2: With right side facing, join D with slip stitch in any single crochet, double crochet in same stitch as joining (double crochet, slip stitch) in next stitch; *(slip stitch, double crochet) in next stitch, (double crochet, slip stitch) in next stitch; repeat from * 3 times more – 5 petals made. Join with slip stitch to first slip stitch. Fasten off.
Finishing
Weave in ends. Pin flower(s) to shirt as desired and stitch in place.
