Crochet Culotte Scarf

The crochet culotte scarf is a fabulous and versatile accessory that will add flair to any outfit! Materials: ( I used )

• 5 mm crochet hook
• Light weight/DK cotton yarn: purple and pink ( about 100 gr for the sample/ 100 gr or 250 yds per skein )
• Yarn needle
• Scissors

Note: I used chainless starting dc for every first dc of each row/ round instead of ch 3. There’s another good crochet technique to use is ch 2, dc into same stitch ( counted as 1st dc). In the pattern below you’ll see I simply state dc for every first dc of each row/round, so just choose your best technique.

Special stitches used:

• V stitch: ( dc, ch 1, dc ) into same stitch or space
• 2 dc- V stitch: ( 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc ) into same stitch or space

Skill level: Easy

Gauge: 12 double crochet stitches x 5 rows = approximately 2 inches ( with materials indicated )

Start with color A yarn

R1: make a chain of 32, dc into 3rd chain from hook ( first 2 ch doesn’t count as 1st dc ), dc across, total 29 sts, turn.

R2: dc into 1st stitch, ch 1, skip 1 st, dc into next st, ( ch 2, skip 2 sts, dc into next st ) x 8 times across, ch 1, skip 1 st, dc into last st, turn.

R3: change to B color yarn, dc into 1st stitch, skip next ch1-space, ( V-stitch into next st, skip next ch2-space ) x 8 times across, V-stitch into next st, skip next ch1-space, dc into last st, turn.

R4: dc into 1st stitch, ch 1, skip 1 st, dc into next ch1-space, ( ch 2, skip 2 sts, dc into next ch1-space ) x 8 times across, ch 1, skip 1 st, dc into last st, turn.

R5: change to A color yarn, dc into 1st stitch, skip next ch1-space, ( V-stitch into next st, skip next ch2-space ) x 8 times across, V-stitch into next st, skip next ch1-space, dc into last st, turn.

R6: dc into 1st stitch, ch 1, skip 1 st, dc into next ch1-space, ( ch 2, skip 2 sts, dc into next ch1-space ) x 8 times across, ch 1, skip 1 st, dc into last st, turn.

R7: change to B color yarn, dc into 1st stitch, skip next ch1-space, ( V-stitch into next st, skip next ch2-space ) x 8 times across, V-stitch into next st, skip next ch1-space, dc into last st, turn.

R8: dc into 1st stitch, ch 1, skip 1 st, dc into next ch1-space, ( ch 2, skip 2 sts, dc into next ch1-space ) x 8 times across, ch 1, skip 1 st, dc into last st, turn.

Change to A color yarn, repeat R5 and R6 alternately untill you reach R70.

R71: dc into 1st stitch, skip next ch1-space, ( V-stitch into next st, skip next ch2-space ) x 8 times across, V-stitch into next st, skip next ch1-space, dc into last st, turn.

R72: change to B color yarn, dc into 1st stitch, ch 1, skip 1 st, dc into next ch1-space, ( ch 2, skip 2 sts, dc into next ch1-space ) x 8 times across, ch 1, skip 1 st, dc into last st, turn.

R73: dc into 1st stitch, skip next ch1-space, ( V-stitch into next st, skip next ch2-space ) x 8 times across, V-stitch into next st, skip next ch1-space, dc into last st, turn.

R74: change to A color yarn, dc into 1st stitch, ch 1, skip 1 st, dc into next ch1-space, ( ch 2, skip 2 sts, dc into next ch1-space ) x 8 times across, ch 1, skip 1 st, dc into last st, turn.

R75: dc into 1st stitch, skip next ch1-space, ( V-stitch into next st, skip next ch2-space ) x 8 times across, V-stitch into next st, skip next ch1-space, dc into last st, turn.

R76: change to B color yarn, dc into 1st stitch, ch 1, skip 1 st, dc into next ch1-space, ( ch 2, skip 2 sts, dc into next ch1-space ) x 8 times across, ch 1, skip 1 st, dc into last st, turn.

R77: dc into 1st stitch, skip next ch1-space, ( V-stitch into next st, skip next ch2-space ) x 8 times across, V-stitch into next st, skip next ch1-space, dc into last st, turn.

R78: change to A color yarn, dc into 1st stitch, ch 1, skip 1 st, dc into next ch1-space, ( ch 2, skip 2 sts, dc into next ch1-space ) x 8 times across, ch 1, skip 1 st, dc into last st, turn.

R79: dc across, total 29 sts.

Flare: ( make 2 ) using color B yarn

Crochet the flare parts at 2 ends of the scarf. Insert hook and join yarn into the last stitch of R79.

R1: dc into 1st stitch, skip 1 st, ( 2 dc-V stitch into next st, skip 2 sts ) x 8 times across, 2 dc-V stitch into next st, skip 1 st, dc into last st, turn.

R2: dc into 1st stitch, skip 2 sts, ( 2 dc-V stitch into next ch2-space, skip 4 sts ) x 8 times across, skip 2 sts, dc into last st, turn.

R3 to 12: same as R2

Repeat at the other end ( fasten off, weave in ends )
