Materials Needed:

  • Yarn (not too thick, recommendation: 100g, 350m, Winter Glow by Hobby; less than one skein used)
  • Crochet hook (4.5 mm or according to yarn label recommendation)
  • Scissors
  • Needle

Bottom Part (Under Chest):

Start with a chain of 51 (adjust the number of chains for size; this measurement is for the section under the chest).

Row 1: Insert your hook into the second chain from the hook, yarn over, pull through, two loops on the hook, single crochet (sc). Continue with sc in each chain across. Chain one, then turn your work.

Subsequent Rows: You have a simple and a more complex option for the texture of your top.

Simple Version: Sc through the back loop only in each stitch across for a ribbed appearance.

Complex Version: Insert the hook under both strands of the second stitch (for a harder texture), sc, then for the next stitch, find the braid (looks like a horizontal line) and insert the hook there, sc. This gives a knit-like, neat rubber band texture.

Repeat the pattern (simple or complex) for approximately 87 rows or until the work matches your chest circumference (adjust the row count based on size — S/M mentioned here). Finish each row with a chain one and turn.

Joining the Bottom Edges:

Join the two short ends of the crocheted band by inserting the hook through loops on both edges and performing single crochets to close the loop, creating a tube.

Upper Part (Chest to Shoulders):

Use two threads (if your yarn allows) for a thicker texture.

Attach the yarn near the seam from the inside to hide it. Begin to single crochet around the top edge of the tube, scattering your stitches evenly.

In the first round, increase (two single crochet in the same stitch) evenly around. Join with a slip stitch to the first sc.

For Subsequent Rounds:

Chain one, turn your work, skip the base of the chain, and make two sc in the next stitch. Continue with the pattern of skipping a stitch and making two sc in the next. This increases the fabric and creates a ruffled edge.

Continue for about 21 rows or to your desired length.

Straps:

Chain 20 (or to your desired strap length), leaving a long tail for sewing.

Starting from the second chain from the hook, make two single crochets in each chain across. Chain one and turn at the end of each row. Repeat until the strap is your desired width, then finish off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Sew the straps onto the top at your marked positions.

Finishing Touches:

Weave in all loose ends.

Optionally, add decorations or additional crochet details to the top as desired.
