Special Stitch

popcorn/cluster = 3 dc in/under ch5 sp, two dc stitches wrapped around the post of all three dc stitches. The first one is a little tricky. I grab it between my thumb, ring finger and pinky to hold it up so that I can wrap my hook around the posts, to complete dc2x.

This Infinity scarf pattern, will help you use up those extra ends and pieces of chunky yarn that you have laying around. It is so much easier to take a few minutes, and join all of the scraps together with a weavers knot.

You can also google weavers knot, and there are some great video tutorials that will help you along. This knot will create a binding knot, but I like to leave a couple of tails that I can weave in for security.

You can also use a square knot, instead of a weavers knot, and leave significant tails. Grab them while you are crocheting, and work them alongside your main strand, for a stitch or two, still leaving a long enough tail, to secure with a knot when your scarf is complete. Description follows, and will follow the completion of the scarf.

How to weave in yarn tails on the chunky scarf.

Once the scarf is complete weave a yarn end to a cluster, and split the yarn, and shove back the two dc that are crossed around the three standing dc, and tie a knot where the two dc’s were, clip your strands, and cover the knot back up with the two dc.

Please note!!! When instructions call for “in arch”, you will be inserting hook under “ch4 arch” and pulling up a loop to complete your stitch

There is a Photo tutorial of popcorn stitch in the ad free pdf that can be purchased at RAVELRY or ETSY.

Rnd. 2: slp st in 1st and 2nd ch of first arch, ch3, 3dc in arch, 2dc around the posts of all three dc, first popcorn made, *popcorn stitch in each arch around* join with slp st in 3rd ch of beg ch3. (30 popcorns [31,32,33,34])

Rnd. 3: slp st to middle of first popcorn, ch 1sc in same st; (ch 4, sc in middle of next popcorn) 30x, slp st in beg sc. (30 arches[31,32,33,34])

Repeat Rnd 2 and 3 consecutively 5 more times, or as many times as you would like to get the width you want. Complete one more row of arches. Width on cowl pictured is 9”

Once the scarf is complete you will need to weave in all of the yarn ends. Thread a yarn tail into the eye of a yarn needle, then weave the yarn end to a popcorn. Split the yarn, and shove back the two dc that are crossed around the three standing dc. Then tie a knot where the two dc’s were, clip your strands, and cover the knot back up with the two dc.
