Instructions

You will use 5 colors total: Yarn A, B, C, D, and E.

Foundation Ring

Using Yarn A, ch 4 and join with a sl-st to form a ring.

Round 1

Ch 5 (counts as 1 dc and ch 2), 3 dc into the ring, ch 2 — rep from * 3 more times,2 dc into the ring.

Join with a sl-st into the 3rd ch of the beg ch-5.

(You should have 4 groups of 3 dc and four ch-2 corner spaces.)

No need to turn your work. Continue in rounds.

Break off Yarn A.

Round 2

Join Yarn B — Sl-st into next ch-2 sp, ch 6 (counts as 1 dc and ch 3), 2 dc into same corner, dc in each dc across the side, 2 dc into next corner sp, ch 3; rep from * twice more, then from * to ** once more, 1 dc into final corner sp.

Join with a sl-st into 3rd ch of beg ch-6.

Break off Yarn B.

Round 3

Join Yarn C into any ch-3 sp, ch 6 (counts as 1 dc and ch 3), 2 dc into same sp, dc in each dc across the side, 2 dc into next corner sp, ch 3; rep from * twice more, then from * to ** once more, 1 dc into final corner sp.

Join with a sl-st into 3rd ch of beg ch-6.

Break off Yarn C.

Round 4

Join Yarn D into any ch-3 sp.

Repeat instructions from Round 3.

Break off Yarn D.

Round 5

Join Yarn E into any ch-4 sp.

Repeat Round 3.

Break off Yarn E.

Optional for a larger square (Round 6)

Join Yarn A into any ch-4 sp.

Repeat Round 3.

Break off Yarn A.
