MATERIALS

Schachenmayr Catania 50 g/137 yds, Sport Yarn, 5ply, crochet hook 3 mm.

ABBREVIATIONS

Hdc = half double crochet
Dc = double crochet
Dc2tog = double crochet 2 stitches together
Scfp = single crochet front post
Sl st = slip stitch
Rep = repeat
Rnd = Round

INSTRUCTIONS

Popcorn Stitch:

4 dc in next st, drop the loop from the hook, insert the hook into first st from four dc's, grab the dropped loop and pull it through the st.

HAT

Rnd 1: Chain 4 stitches. 11 dc in the second chain, sl st to the top of ch.

Rnd 2: ch3, dc in the same st as ch, 2 dc in each of next 11 st, sl st to top of ch 3 (24 stitches).

Rnd 3: ch 3, dc in the same st as ch, dc in next st, *2 dc in next st, dc in next st*, repeat from * to * 11 times, sl st to top of ch 3 (36 stitches).

Rnd 4: ch 3, dc in the same st as ch, dc in next st, *2 dc in next st, dc in each of next 2 st*, repeat from * to * 11 times, sl st to top of ch 3 (48 stitches).

Rnd 5: ch3, dc in the same st as ch, dc in next st, popcorn stitch in next st, dc in next st, *2 dc in next st, dc in next st, popcorn stitch in next st, dc in next st*, repeat from * to * 11 times, sl st to top of ch 3 (60 stitches).

Rnd 6: dc in each of next 60 sts.

Rnd 7: ch 3, dc in the same st as ch, dc in next st, *2 dc in next st, dc in each of next 4 st*, repeat from * to * 11 times, sl st to top of ch 3 (72 stitches).

Rnd 8: ch 3, dc in the same st as ch, dc in next st, *2 dc in next st, dc in each of next 5 st*, repeat from * to * 11 times, sl st to top of ch 3 (84 stitches).

Rnd 9: ch3, *popcorn st in next st, dc in each of next 3 sts*, repeat from * to * around.

Rnd 10: ch3, dc in each of next 2 sts, *popcorn st in next st, dc in each of next 3 sts*, repeat from * to * around.

Rnd 11-18: Repeat rounds 9 and 10.

All around hat crochet one Rnd in crab stitch (reverse single crochet). Weave in all ends.

STEM

Rnd 1: Chain 2 stitches, 10 sc in the second ch from hook.

Row 2-5: sc in each of next 10 sts.

Row 6: scfp in each of next 10 sts, sl st.

Row 7: ch 3, 2 dc in each of next 10 sts, sl st.

LEAF (3x)

Ch 14, sl st in second ch from hook, *sc in next st, hdc in each of next 2 sts, dc in each of next 2 sts, trc in each of next 2 sts, dc in each of next 2 sts, hdc in each of next 2 sts, sc in next st*. Working on another side of chain, repeat from * to *.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing leaves to hat.

FINISHING

Sew stem to hat. Arrange and sew leaves around the stem. Weave in and trim any remaining ends.
