With your 7.00mm crochet hook and chunky yarn, make a slip knot and chain 75. {Note: Add or remove sets of 2 foundation chains to make a smaller or larger headband.}

Row 1 – Star Stitch Foundation

Insert your hook in the 2nd chain and pick up a loop. Pick up 1 loop in each of the next 4 chain stitches (6 loops on your hook). Yarn over and pull through all loops on your hook. Chain 1 (this forms the “eye” of the star). *Pick up a loop in the eye of the last star you created, pick up a loop through the back of the last loop of the previous star, then pick up a loop through the same chain as the last loop of the previous star. Pick up a loop in each of the next 2 chain stitches (6 loops on your hook). Yarn over and pull through all loops on your hook. Chain 1. Repeat from * across. Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet in the last chain of this row (the same chain as the last loop of the last star of this row). Turn your work.

Row 2

Chain 1. Crochet 1 Single Crochet in the same stitch. Crochet 1 Single Crochet in the “eye” of the next star stitch. Crochet 2 Single Crochets in the “eye” of each star across. Crochet 1 Single Crochet into the top of the turning chain at the end of this row. Turn your work.

Row 3

Chain 2. Pick up a loop in the front strand of the 2nd chain from your hook, then pick up another loop in the 2nd chain in the back strand. Pick up a loop in the first stitch of this row. Pick up a loop in each of the next 3 stitches (single crochets) — you should have 6 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 6 loops on your hook. Chain 1. *Pick up a loop in the eye of the last star you created, pick up a loop through the back of the last loop of the previous star, then pick up a loop through the same stitch as the last loop of the previous star. Pick up a loop in each of the next 2 stitches (6 loops on your hook). Yarn over and pull through all loops on your hook. Chain 1. Repeat from * across. Crochet 1 Half Double Crochet in the last stitch of this row (the same stitch as the last loop of the last star of this row).

Rows 4–8

Repeat Rows 2–3. {Note: Add or remove a couple sets of Rows 2–3 to adjust the headband width if desired.}

Finishing

Join the two ends of your headband together, overlapping them by 2.5″. Fold the top end into a pointed/arrow shape and place it over the bottom end. Sew the two ends together, stitching through both layers to secure. Sew the wooden button on top of the overlapped area to finish the closure.
