Quick & Cute Crochet Scrunchie: Easy DIY Pattern
Crochet a quick and adorable scrunchie to brighten any hairstyle. This simple project uses basic double crochet rows to create a soft, stretchy strip that wraps around a hair elastic. It's a great stash-busting project and a nice gift idea — choose bright colors for a fun look or subtle tones for everyday wear.

Materials
- Yarn (any type, but not too thick)
- Crochet hook (larger than recommended on the yarn label)
- Hair elastic
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
Instructions
1. Chain 17.
2. Row 1: Double crochet in the 3rd chain from the hook and across. (15 dc)
3. Row 2: Chain 2, turn. Double crochet across. (15 dc)
4. Continue working rows of double crochet until the strip is long enough. Test by wrapping the strip around the hair elastic; when fully stretched, the strip should still have some space to stretch further.
5. Without cutting the yarn, sew the beginning and the end together using a slip stitch to form a tube.
6. Wrap the strip around the hair elastic and sew the edges together with the blanket stitch to secure it in place.
7. Finish off and weave in any loose ends.
Tips
- If you want a fuller scrunchie, use a slightly thicker yarn or make the strip longer (add more rows).
- A larger hook than the yarn label recommends will create a looser, airier fabric that gathers nicely.
- Keep the strip slightly shorter than the elastic circumference for more ruffle; leave a bit of extra stretch if you prefer a less gathered look.
