Pattern
CH 131
R1: CH 2, HDC into every ST across the row. Turn work and CH 2.
R2-4: CH 2, HDC into the first 2 STS, CH 4, skip 4 STS, HDC into the next 2 STS, CH 4, skip 4 STS. Repeat this alternating method until the end of each row. After completing each row, turn work and CH 2.
R5: CH 2, HDC into every ST across the row. After completing the row, SS to finish.

Work in progress: foundation chain and first rows showing placement of HDC and chain spaces.
Edging finish:
Next, insert your hook into BOTH horizontal sides (the long edges) of the scarf. HDC into the first ST, CH 1, HDC into the following ST, CH 1 and HDC into the next. Complete this edging once along the side, then SS to secure.
Fringe:
Cut about 2β3 inch lengths of yarn. Use 12 strands total (two strands for each skipped section) and knot them into the skipped CH-4 spaces to create fringe along the ends. Trim evenly.

Preparing short yarn strands for the fringe β cut even lengths before attaching to skipped chain spaces.

Edge detail after adding a single-row HDC border along the long sides for a clean finish.
Tips:
- Adjust chain length to make the scarf longer or shorter as desired; maintain stitch pattern multiple to preserve mesh spacing.
- Use a yarn with similar weight if substituting; the pattern works well with medium (worsted) weight yarns.
- Block lightly if needed to open the mesh and even out the fringe.
