Beginner-Friendly Crochet Harmony Square Afghan Block — Free Step-by-Step Pattern

The Crochet Harmony Square Afghan Block is a beginner-friendly, made-in-the-round square that highlights color changes and textured post stitches to create a harmonious, decorative block. This pattern produces a 9in x 9in (approx.) square worked without turning and is ideal for making afghans, cushions or sampler blankets where you can mix and match colors.

This versatile design lets you practice dc, hdc, sc, and post stitches (fpdc/bpdc) while producing a neat square with defined corners. The sample shown uses Deramores Studio Aran in Emerald (Colour A) and Juniper (Colour B) with a 5mm hook.

Finishing tips: Gently block each square to bring it to the stated size and even the stitches if necessary. Weave in ends neatly on the wrong side with a darning needle. When joining multiple squares, maintain consistent tension and consider using a seaming method that highlights or hides join seams depending on your project.
