Materials:

  • Crochet Hook: H/5.00mm
  • Other: 1 5/8″ Button
  • Optional: 10″ Zipper & Material for Lining.

Measurements:

  • Gauge: 3 sts = 1″ and 6 rows = 2″.
  • Finished Size: Laying flat it measures 9″ wide by 6.5″ high, not counting the flap or handles.

Abbreviations:

Ch/Chs = Chain/Chains
FO = Fasten Off
Hdc = Half Double Crochet
Hdc2tog = Half Double Crochet 2 Together
Hk = Hook
Puff St = Puff Stitch
Rep = Repeat
RS = Right Side

Pattern Instructions:

Rnd 1 (WS): Ch 24, hdc in 2nd ch from hk and in next 21 chs, 3 hdc in last ch. Working on opposite side of starting chains, hdc in free loops of next 21 chs, 2 hdc in last ch; join with sl st in first hdc. Turn. [48 sts]

Rnd 2 (RS): Ch 1, 3 sc in first st, *sc in next 21 sts, 3 sc in next st, sc in next st*, 3 sc in next st; rep from * to * once; join with sl st in first sc. Turn. [56 sts]

Rnd 3: Ch 1, hdc in first st and into each st around; join with sl st in first hdc. Turn. [56 sts]

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in first st and into each st around; join with sl st in first sc. Turn. [56 sts]

Rnds 5-19: Rep Rnds 3 and 4 ending with Rnd 3 at Rnd 19.

Flap:

Note: Lay the bag flat and mark off 21 stitches in the center on one side. See images below:

Row 1: With RS facing, ch 1, sc in first st and into next 20 sts. Turn. [21 sts]

Row 2: Ch 1, hdc in first st and into each st across. Turn. [21 st]

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc2tog, sc in each st up to last 3 sts, sc2tog, sc in last st. Turn. [19 sts]

Row 4: Ch 1, hdc in first st, hdc2tog, hdc in each st up to last 3 sts, hdc2tog, hdc in last st. Turn. [17 sts]

Rows 5-6: Rep Rows 3 and 4. Turn. [13 sts]

Row 7: Rep Row 3. [11 sts]

Row 8: Ch 1, hdc in first st, hdc2tog, hdc in next 2 sts, ch 1, skip next st, hdc in next 2 sts, hdc2tog, hdc in last st. Turn. [8 sts and 1 ch-1 sp]

Row 9: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc2tog, sc in next st, sc in ch and into next st, sc2tog, sc in last st. Turn. [7 sts]

Row 10: Ch 1, hdc in first st, hdc2tog, hdc in next st, hdc2tog, hdc in last st. Turn. [5 sts]

Edging:

Ch 1, sc in each st around working 2 sc at each corner of the flap. FO.

Handle:

Row 1: Ch 5, hdc in 2nd ch from hk and into each ch across. [4 sts]

Row 3: Ch 1, hdc in each st across. [4 sts]

Row 4-61: Rep Rows 2 and 3 until you have reached a desired length.

With RS facing, sc evenly around handle working 3 sc in each corner. FO and attach to bag as shown.
