Worsted weight yarn
I hook
Paperback book about 1.25” thick
Yarn needle

Gauge: 12 dc = 4”, 7 rows dc = 4”


Ch 25 [28]

Round 1: Make 2 sc in 2nd chain from hook, sc in each chain (22, 25) to last chain, working over yarn tail for remainder of this round, 3 sc in last ch, work in opposite side of starting chain and sc in each of 23 [26] chain stitches. Join with slipstitch in top of first sc. (50 sc) [56 sc]

Round 2-10 [2-12]: Ch 2 (doesn’t count as dc only turning chain), dc in each st around. Join with slipstitch in top of first dc. (50 dc) [56 dc]

Round 11 [13]: Ch 1, sc in front loop only around. (50 sc) [56 sc]

Cuff

Round 12 [14]: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in each st around. Join with a slipstitch around ch 3 as if to front post.

Round 13-14 [15-16]: Ch 3 (counts as first fpdc), *bpdc around next dc, fpdc around next dc, repeat around. Join with a slipstitch around beginning ch 3 as if to front post. Fasten off after round 14 [16]

Tassels: (make 2)

Wind the yarn around the paperback book (the 4.25” way) 30-40 times. Cut the yarn, thread yarn through a yarn needle and pass the needle under all the loops. Tie the end of the yarn firmly around the loops. Slide the yarn off the book and cut the loops opposite the tie. Wind the end of yarn around all the loops below the fold and fasten securely. Pass the needle through the top and use the end to sew the tassel in place at the top corner of the hat. Trim the ends neatly.
