Finished Size: about 4" tall sitting

You will need:

  • medium weight yarn in brown, black, and beige (sample made in Loops and Threads Impeccable in Chocolate, Dark Charcoal, and Putty)
  • G crochet hook (4/4.25 mm)
  • 2- 6 mm safety eyes
  • Polyfil fiberfill
  • yarn needle
  • stitch markers
  • scissors
  • black embroidery floss and needle

Instructions:

The body and head are made in one piece, the other pieces are made separately and sewn on. All of the pieces but the tail and ears, are made beginning with a magic ring (mr).

Body

Make 1 with brown, beginning with magic ring

Round 1: in mr, ch 1, 6 sc (6 sc)

Round 2: 2 sc in each st (12 sc)

Round 3: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next st] repeat around (18 sc)

Rounds 4-8: 1 sc in each st (18 sc)

Begin stuffing and continue stuffing as you work

Round 9: sc2tog around (9 sc)

Round 10: 2 sc in each st (18 sc)

Round 11: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 2 sts] repeat around (24 sc)

Round 12-15: 1 sc in each st (24 sc)

Round 16: [sc2tog, sc in next 2 sts] repeat around (18 sc)

Insert safety eyes between rounds 13 and 14 about 3 stitches apart

Round 17: [sc2tog, sc in next st] repeat around (12 sc)

Round 18: sc2tog around (6 sc)

Finish off, weave in ends


Nose

Make 1 with brown, beginning with magic ring

Round 1: in mr, ch 1, 6 sc (6 sc)

Round 2: 1 sc in first st, 3 sc in next st, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, 3 sc in next st, 1 sc in last st (10 sc)

Round 3: 1 sc in blo of each st (10 sc)

Finish off and cut yarn leaving long tail for sewing

Embroider 2 small lines on the nose for nostrils

Add a little bit of stuffing inside the nose piece and sew to the head just below the eyes


Horns

Make 2 with beige, beginning with magic ring

Round 1: in mr, ch 1, 6 sc (6 sc)

Round 2: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next] repeat around (9 sc)

Rounds 3-4: 1 sc in each st (9 sc)

add some stuffing to the end of the horn and continue to add a tiny bit as needed as you make the horns

Round 5: sc2tog, 1 sc in next st, sc2tog, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in each of next 2 sts, 1 sc in next st (9 sc)

Round 6: sc2tog twice, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st (9 sc)

Round 7: sc2tog, 1 sc in each of next 7 sts (8 sc)

Round 8: sc2tog, 1 sc in each of next 6 sts (7 sc)

Round 9: 1 sc in first st, sc2tog, 1 sc in next 4 sts (6 sc)

Round 10: sc2tog, 1 sc in next st, sc2tog, 1 sc in next st (4 sc)

Finish off and cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing, weave around opening to close

Sew the horns to the top of the head, kind of on the front, forehead area, meeting in the middle


Ears

Make 2 with brown, beginning with a ch

ch 4

sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, hdc in next st, dc in last st (1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc)

Finish off and cut yarn, leaving long tail for sewing

Stitch the ears to the head, slightly to the side of the horns


Legs

Make 4 starting with black and switching to brown where indicated, beginning with magic ring

Round 1: in mr, ch 1, 8 sc (8 sc)

Round 2: 1 sc in blo of each st (8 sc)

switch to brown

Rounds 3-5: 1 sc in each st (8 sc)

Finish off and cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing

Sew the 2 of the legs/arms to the side of the body just below the head, sew the other 2 to the bottom side of the body in a sitting position


Tail

Make 1 with brown, beginning with chain

ch 6

sl st in the 2nd ch from the hook, and each ch to the end (5 sc)

Finish off and cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing

Cut 2 small lengths of black yarn (4-6") fold in half and pull the folded end through the end of the tail and then pull the ends through that loop and pull to make a tuft on the end of the tail

Sew to the bottom of the back side of the body
