- 5mm crochet hook
- Lightweight/ DK yarn: yellow, brown, blue
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
Note: You can use any hook size for this crochet sunflower square pattern, just choose a yarn type that matches.
Special stitch used:
double sc ( double single crochet )
- Insert hook into indicated stitch, yarn over and draw through one loop, you’ll have 2 loops on the hook.
- Yarn over again and insert the hook back into the same stitch. Yarn over draw another loop through the stitch, you’ll have 4 loops on the hook.
- Yarn over and draw through 4 loops at one time.

Pistil: using brown yarn
R1: make a magic ring ( adjustable loop ), crochet 6 sc into ring, total 6 sts, sl into 1st st to join.
R2: ( 2 double sc tog in each st ) x 6 times around, total 12 sts, sl into 1st st to join.
R3: ( double sc, 2 double sc tog in next st ) x 6 times around, total 18 sts, sl into 1st st to join.
R4: ( 2 double sc tog, double sc in each of next 2 sts ) x 6 times around, total 24 sts, sl into 1st st to join.
Petals: using yellow yarn
Insert hook and join yarn into the front loop of 1st stitch of R5 of the pistil part.
Crochet * ( sc, hdc, dc, tr, dtr ) in one st, ( dtr, tr, dc, hdc, sc ) in next st * repeat ** 12 times around, total 12 petals. ( fasten off )
Weave in ends.
Square bed: using blue yarn
Insert hook and join yarn into the back loop of 1st stitch of R5 of the pistil part.
R1: ch4 (or standing tr), dc into same st, 4 dc across, 1dc and 1 tr into next st, ch2, *1 tr and 1 dc into next st, 4 dc across, 1 dc and 1 tr into next st, ch2* repeat ** 3 times, sl into last st to join.
R2: *8 dc across, 2 dc into next ch2-space, ch2, 2 dc into the same ch2-space* repeat ** 4 times, sl into 1st st to join.
