How to Bobble Stitch / dc5tog:
Bobble stitches are worked from the “wrong side” – meaning they pop out away from you as you work. They are worked much like a dc dec, but all into the same stitch. To dc5tog, work 5 dc all into the same stitch, leaving the last loop unworked on the hook each time. When you’ve got 6 loops on the hook, yarn over and pull through all 6 sts. Work tightly here, and as soon as you make the next (sc) st, the bobble should pop right out on the other side of your work.
Instructions:
With Color A, Ch 58.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch and each ch across. Turn. (57 sc)
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc) and dc in the next st and each st across. Turn. (57 dc)
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first 4 sts. *Dc5tog in the next st, sc in the next 3 sts. Repeat from * until 5 sts remain. Dc5tog in next st, sc in last 4 sts. Switch to Color B to finish last st, turn. (13 bobbles)
Row 4: Repeat Row 2
Row 5: Ch 1, sc in first 2 sts. *Dc5tog in the next st, sc in the next 3 sts. Repeat from * until 3 sts remain. Dc5tog in next st, sc in last 2 sts. Switch to Color C, turn. (14 bobbles)
Row 6 — 7: Repeat Rows 2-3. Switch to Color D, turn. (13 bobbles)
Row 8 — 9: Repeat Rows 4-5. Switch to Color E, turn. (14 bobbles)
Row 10 — 11: Repeat Rows 2-3. Switch to Color F, turn. (13 bobbles)
Row 12 — 13: Repeat Rows 4-5. Switch to Color G, turn. (14 bobbles)
Row 14: Ch 1, sc in the first 28 sts, skip next st, sc in the last 28 sts. Join with sl st to first sc of row to work in rounds. Do not turn. (56 sc)
Round 15: Ch 2, dc2tog (decrease, NOT bobble) over 1st and 2nd st of round. *Dc2tog decreases to end. Join to top of 1st decrease with sl st. Do not turn. (28 dc)
Round 16: Repeat Round 15. (14 dc)
Round 17: Repeat Round 15 (7 dc), but instead of sl st, break yarn and use seamless join to finish off. Weave in all ends.
Finishing
If desired: Make edging along front and/or bottom to match any edging you use on the blanket.
To finish: Weave 6mm ribbon between posts of sts of Row 2.
