Coaster Size: ~12.5cm/5in in diameter.

Gauge: Specific gauge not required.

Stitch Terminology: US. Refer to Abbreviations and Special Stitch Instructions.

Pattern Synopsis: Constructed in the round, initially as a continuous spiral. The spiral is then closed. The bloom petal rounds are then constructed.

Invis Join: Note: Can be substituted with Sl St. Remove loop from hook, insert hook from back to front (through BL and then FL) of st that join is to be made in, return yarn loop to hook, pull yarn through st (from front to back), gently pull yarn end to tighten join.

Pattern Instructions

Note:

All rounds up to and including the Complete Spiral Sequence are worked as a continuous spiral.

Stitch markers can optionally be used to mark the start of each continuous spiral round.

Stitch increases in spiral rounds are always made in the second stitch of the stitch increase from the previous round.

Beg Ch 1, beg Sl St, and fin Sl St do not count as a stitch, except where indicated.

Rep st sequence in { } the number of times specified by the pattern instructions.

A st count follows each round instructions in ( ).

The third loop (to work 3LO stitches) is located at the back/reverse side of the st, behind, and approximately parallel with the back loop of the stitch. This is most easily located by slightly folding forwards/curling over the edge of the circle so that the reverse of the circle can be seen (as well as the front and back loops of the st).

If joining a new colour for the border, fasten off first colour after Round 5. Ignore the border round instruction to Sl St into next st and instead directly join new colour into the stitch directly following the stitch used for the Spiral Completion St Sequence Sl St.

Beg Circle: Leaving a beg yarn tail of sufficient length to sew in, make a circle with either MC, or Ch 4 and Sl St into first ch.

Spiral Rounds

Round 1: Ch 1, SC in circle, HDC in circle ten times. (1 SC, 10 HDC)

Round 2: Note: Make all st in 3LO of st from prev rnd. Sk SC, 2 HDC in next ten st. (20 HDC)

Round 3: Note: Make all st in 3LO of st from prev rnd. {HDC in next st, 2 HDC in next st} rep ten times in total. (30 HDC)

Round 4: Note: Make all st in 3LO of st from prev rnd. {HDC in next two st, 2 HDC in next st} rep ten times in total. (40 HDC)

Round 5: Note: Make all st in 3LO of st from prev rnd. {HDC in next three st, 2 HDC in next st} rep ten times in total. (50 HDC)

Spiral Completion St Sequence: Note: This st sequence completes/closes the spiral. From this point onwards a st marker is no longer needed. Make all st in 3LO of st from prev rnd. SC in next two st (first and second HDC from Round 5), Sl St into next st. (2 SC, 1 Sl St)*

*Note: 50 st will be available for border construction, i.e. 47 HDC from Rnd 5 plus 2 SC and 1 Sl St from Spiral Completion St Sequence.

Petals

Round 6: Note: Make all st in 3LO of st from prev rnd.

Sl St into next st, Ch 2, DC in next st, 2 DC in next st, 2 HTR in next three st, 2 DC in next st, DC in next st, HDC in next st (Petal made), Sl St into next st, {HDC in next st, DC in next st, 2 DC in next st, 2 HTR in next three st, 2 DC in next st, DC in next st, HDC in next st (Petal made), Sl St into next st} rep four times in total (working last Sl St behind Complete Spiral Sequence Sl St), Invis Join into second Ch of beg Ch 2. (5 Petals (each with 2 HDC, 6 DC, 6 HTR), 5 Sl St)

Round 7: Note: Make all st in 3LO of st from prev rnd. Sl St into next st, Ch 2, HDC in next four st, 2 HDC in next two st, HDC in next five st (Petal made), sk next st, SC in Round 5 st that Round 6 Sl St was made in (over the top of Sl St), {sk next st, HDC in next five st, 2 HDC in next two st, HDC in next five st (Petal made), sk next st, SC in Round 5 st that Round 6 Sl St was made in (as before)} rep four times in total (working last SC behind Sl St), Invis Join into second ch of beg Ch 2. (5 Petals (each with 14 HDC), 5 SC)

Finishing: Fasten off yarn leaving a yarn tail of sufficient length to sew in. Sew in yarn ends securely on WS of coaster.
