Crochet Crossbody Bag

Materials:
- I hook, 5.5 mm
- Size 3 cotton yarn (2 strands held together), I used Yarn Bee Sugarwheel Cotton in 5 colors
- Tapestry needle, sewing needle
- Embroidery floss
- 15 mm magnetic snaps (optional)
- 1″ keychain rings (2 total)/1″ D rings (2 total)- optional
- Fabric quarter (18″ X 21″), 100% cotton – optional
Note:
- You will work the bag with 2 strands together.
- You can use a larger weight yarn, be sure to check your gauge.
- The bag is worked from the bottom up. The lining, side rings and clasp are optional.
Gauge:
11 sts x 10 rows of pattern = 4″ square
Abbreviations:
- st(s)- stitch(es)
- hk- hook
- sc- single crochet
- blo- back loop only
- fpdc- front post double crochet
- sl st- slip stitch
Pattern:
Ch 31
Round 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from hk and each ch to end st. Sc 5 into the last st and continue to sc down the other side of the chains with 5 sc in last st, sl st to join (30).
Round 2: Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to join (30).
Round 3: Ch 1, sc in the BLO in each st around, sl st to join (30).
Round 4: Ch 2, dc in each st around, sl st to join (30).
Rounds 5-6: Ch 2, *fpdc, dc,* repeat from * around, sl st to join (30).
Rounds 6-7: Change to black color, repeat rounds 5-6 (30).
Rounds 8-9: Change to white color, repeat rounds 5-6 (30).
Rounds 10-11: Change to hot pink color, repeat rounds 5-6 (30).
Rounds 12-13: Change to gray color, repeat rounds 5-6 (30).
Rounds 14-15: Change to light pink color, repeat rounds 5-6 (30).
Rounds 16-25: Repeat rounds 6-15 (30).
Round 17: Change to black color, ch 1, sl st in each st around (30).
Fasten off, weave in all ends.
Lining:
Fold your fabric quarter in half with the outside facing out, iron flat.
Cut your fabric so it is a little larger than the width of the bag, about 12.5″.
With embroidery floss, sew up the sides, leaving about an inch opening on either side at the top.
Fasten off, trim ends.
Fold over the top of the lining about an inch and iron flat.
Fold over the very top in half again so you have a clean edge and iron flat.
Claps (optional):
Sew the clasps (with sewing needle and floss) onto the lining on both sides and fasten off on the back of the lining.
Add lining to bag:
Put the lining in the bag making sure each corner is pushed into the corner of the bag.
With your sewing needle and embroidery floss, sew in and out around the top of the bag to attach the lining.
NOTE: If you choose not to have side rings, attach your strap to the inside of the bag on either side about an inch down before adding the lining.
Side rings:
With tapestry needle and yarn, sew the rings to each side of the bag.
Strap:
Chain 5 sts around the ring (or ch 5 if you are not using rings).
Row 1: Sc into the 2nd ch from the hk and each ch, turn (4).
Rows 2-117: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn (4).
The strap will measure approx. 37″.
Fasten off if you are no using rings.
If using rings, sc through each st around the ring.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
