Notes:

  • Multiple of 2.
  • When working into the foundation chain, the pattern author prefers working into the back bar (back bump) of the chain. You may work under the back loop only if you prefer.
  • Initial ch 2 counts as 1 hdc. Do not work into the stitch at the base of the ch 2 because the ch 2 counts as the first st worked.
  • Initial ch 1 does not count as a stitch.
  • To make this scarf wider, chain more stitches using a multiple of 2.
  • To make this scarf longer, work more rows following the repeat set out in the pattern.

You can use any yarn and hook to make this project. With the yarn and hook you’ve chosen for the project, chain until you reach the width you wish for your scarf. Check that the number of chains can be divided by 2 evenly. Follow the pattern as written. If you wish to make the scarf longer, work additional repeats of R3. End your repeat after an even numbered row and work the Final Row. Finish off and weave in ends.

Final Row summary (repeat for convenience):

R1: Ch 28, sk the first ch, 1 sc in each rem ch across. Turn.

R2: Ch 2 (counts as 1 hdc – see notes), sk 1 st, 2 hdc in the next st. *Sk 1 st, 2 hdc in the next st**. Work from * to ** across to the last 2 sts. Sk the next st, 1 hdc in the last st. Turn.

R3: Ch 2 (counts as 1 hdc). *Sk all sts not mentioned. Make 2 hdc in the sp between the next 2 hdc**. Work from * to ** across to the last st. 1 hdc in the last st. Turn.
