I strongly recommend that you use cotton yarn for potholders. Acrylic yarn will melt if you put a hot pan on them. I have seen too many people with melted potholders because they think that they won't melt. One of my friends ended up with a melted potholder stuck to her hand and her pan. She had quite a doctor bill.
