Crocheting an adorable bag is such a fun and creative project! Choosing colorful yarns, intricate stitch patterns, and charming embellishments can really make your bag one-of-a-kind. Not only will you end up with a cute accessory to carry your essentials, but you'll also have the satisfaction of knowing you made it with your own hands. So grab your hooks and yarn, and let's get creative together making a fabulous crochet bag that you'll love to show off!
Materials:
- 1.5 mm polyester macrame thread
- 2.5 mm crochet hook
- 16 beads (which you'll place on the thread)
Starting the Project
Thread Preparation:
Add 8 beads on the thread to start.
Initial Chain:
Make a starting chain, then crochet 36 chains after that.
If you want to make the piece bigger, add increments of 14 chains, as the pattern repeats every 14 stitches.
First Row:
After your starting chain, use 2 chains to count as your first double crochet, then make 33 double crochets.
You should have 34 stitches in total for this row.
Continuing the Pattern
Second Row:
Crochet the second row the same way as the first, with 34 stitches in total.
Third Row (Pattern Row):
In the third row, begin to create a pattern.
You’ll make a 'flower pattern' every 12 stitches, with 2 of those stitches being part of the flower.
Crochet 2 crochets behind the beads as part of the pattern.
Fourth Row:
Continue with double crochets for the fourth row, maintaining 34 stitches.
Further Rows and Pattern Details
Fifth Row:
Proceed with the fifth row similarly to the previous rows with double crochets.
Sixth Row:
Continue with the sixth row as before.
Seventh Row:
Repeat the flower pattern again in the seventh row.
Rows up to 10:
Continue with standard double crochet rows.
Eleventh Row:
Create a flower pattern again, as in the 3rd and 7th rows.
Edging and Finishing Touches
Edging:
Crochet single crochet stitches on all three edges. In the corner loops, crochet 1 chain and then 1 single crochet. Work around all 4 sides in the opposite direction with single crochet stitches.
Back Crochets:
If you’re adding a zipper or creating a space for one, crochet single crochet stitches in the back loops in that space.
Other Edges:
For the other 3 edges, crochet half treble crochets in the back loops, and slip stitch to the zipper space in the second and third rows. Repeat half treble crochet to the non-zipper edges.
Assembly
Create Second Piece:
Crochet a second piece identical to the first one.
Zipper:
Sew the zipper onto one of the pieces first.
Joining:
Sew the two pieces together with the leftover yarn, ensuring the corners align.
Detailing:
Mark and sew the corners for a neat finish. Attach any bag accessories as desired.
