Creating the Scrunchie Base

Attaching Yarn to Elastic

Make a slip knot.

Adjust the loop to fit around your hook comfortably.

Insert the hook through the elastic band.

Pull the loop through the elastic.

Yarn over and pull through to secure the yarn onto the band.

Crocheting Around the Elastic

Crochet 45 single crochets around the elastic.

Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch if needed.

Continue evenly around until you've covered the entire elastic.

Remove the stitch marker once the round is complete.

Crocheting the Flower Branches

First Flower Branch

Chain 6.

Slip stitch into the third chain from the hook to create a small loop.

Chain 10.

Slip stitch into the sixth chain from the hook.

Crochet 3 more slip stitches in the next 3 chains.

Repeat the 10-chain petal structure 4 more times (for a total of 5 petals).

Chain 15 to finish the branch.

Cut yarn and pull tight to secure.

Second Flower Branch

Skip 2 stitches on the base.

Insert the hook into the fourth stitch from the previous branch.

Pull up a loop and attach yarn.

Chain 6 and repeat the petal pattern as done for the first branch.

Create only 5 petals this time.

End with 15 chains and cut the yarn.

Repeat the first and second flower branches alternately around the scrunchie (5 groups total).

Crocheting the Leaves

Attach yarn between flower groups.

Chain 6, slip stitch into the second chain from the hook.

Slip stitch into the next stitch, then chain 5.

Slip stitch again and repeat for a total of 6 leaves.

After the sixth leaf, slip stitch into the space between the third and fourth leaf to anchor.

Continue with chain 5 and repeat slip stitches to add detail.

Make 3 sets of small chain leaves total.

Finish with a slip stitch, chain 1, and fasten off.

Adding the Flowers

Large Flowers

Use a contrasting yarn color.

Chain 5 and form a ring.

Crochet 5 double crochets into the ring.

Mark the first and last double crochet with a stitch marker.

Pull the loop up, chain 4, and slip stitch into the center.

Repeat for a total of 3 large flowers.

Medium and Small Flowers

On the next flower branch, chain 4 and make 5 double crochets into the base loop.

For a smaller flower, chain 3 and work into the flower loop as before.

Repeat the process across all flower branches to decorate the scrunchie.

Finishing Touches

Weave in all yarn tails securely on the back of the scrunchie using a yarn needle.

Arrange the flower and leaf clusters evenly.

The finished piece should have 5 decorative groups (2 flower branches + 1 leaf in each).

Add any additional embellishments if desired.
