Special Stitches
Work loops off hook (work lps off hook): Yo, pull through 1 lp on hook (see 1 of Fig. 1), [yo, pull through 2 lps on hook] across leaving 1 lp on hook at end of row (see 2 of Fig. 1).
Afghan stitch (afghan st): Sk first vertical bar, pull up lp in next vertical bar (see 3 of Fig. 1), pull up lp in each vertical bar across to last vertical bar, for last st, insert hook in last bar and st directly behind it (see 4 of Fig. 1) at same time, yo, pull lp through, work lps off hook.

Row 1: With ebony and size H hook, ch 37, holding all lps on hook, pull up lp in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (37 lps on hook), work lps off hook (see Special Stitches).
Row 2: Afghan st (see Special Stitches) across (37 lps on hook), work lps off hook.
Next rows: Rep last row until piece measures 19 1/2 inches.
Last row: Sl st in each vertical bar across.
Fasten off.

Row 1: Beg at bottom, with ebony and size H hook, ch 15, pick up lp in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (15 lps on hook), work lps off hook.
Rows 2–8: Afghan st across, work lps off hook.
Row 9: Afghan st in next st, yo, pull through both lps on hook, afghan st across to last 3 sts, afghan st twice, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook, afghan st in last st (13 lps on hook), work lps off hook.
Next row: [Rep rows 2–9 consecutively] 3 times.
Next row: Afghan st across (7 lps on hook), work lps off hook.

Handle Loop
Make 4.
Row 1: With ebony and size H hook, ch 5, pick up lp in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (5 lps on hook), work lps off hook.
Next row: Afghan st across, work lps off hook.
Next rows: Rep last row until piece measures 4 inches from beg. Leaving long end, fasten off.
Assembly
Sew 1 long edge of Side to 1 End across both long edges and bottom of short end, leaving rem short end of End unsewn.
Rep on opposite side of Sides with rem End.
Center and sew ends of Handle Loops on top edges of Sides.
Felting
Place Bag in mesh laundry bag or pillowcase to prevent loose fibers from plugging up your washing machine.
Set your machine on hot water wash and rinse on cold. Pour small amount of gentle detergent into machine, and begin washing. After wash cycle, check item to see if project is sufficiently felted. If so, continue with cold rinse cycle. If not, run it through another wash cycle.
Remove item and shape using picture as guide. Allow Bag to air dry.
Button
Make 4.
Rnd 1: With G hook and ebony, ch 3, sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 1, 6 sc in ring, join (see Pattern Note) in beg sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each st around, join in beg sc.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join in beg sc.
Rnd 4: Ch 1, [sc dec in next 2 sts] around, join in beg sc. At end of last end, leaving long end, fasten off.
First Ruffle
Make 2.
Row 1: With size G hook and maroon, ch 42, dc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn.
Rows 2 & 3: Ch 1, 2 dc in first st and in each st across, turn.
Row 4: Ch 1, dc in each st across.
Fasten off.
2nd Ruffle
Make 2.
Row 1: With size G hook and maroon, ch 42, dc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, dc in each st across, turn.
Rows 3 & 4: Ch 1, 2 dc in each st across, turn.
Row 5: Ch 1, dc in each st across, turn.
Finishing
Sew 2 Buttons on 1 side for front.
Sew 1 Button to front at top edge.
Sew rem Button to top edge of back opposite Button on front top edge.
Beginning at center of Side, place First Ruffle on top of 2nd Ruffle and sew row 1 to top edge around to Button at top edge on back.
Rep with rem 2nd Ruffle.
Attach handles according to manufacturer's instructions.
Attach magnetic snap to Buttons at top edge.
Lining
Cut 2 pieces fabric 1/2 inch larger on all edges to fit inside Bag.
With RS tog, sew fabric tog on 3 sides.
Insert inside Bag, turn top edge under 1/2 inch and sew to inside top edge of Bag.
