ABBREVIATIONS

Ch = chain
St = stitch
Sc = single crochet
Sl st = slip stitch
inc = increase stitch (two single crochets in one stitch)
Dc = double crochet
Rnd = round
TSS = Tunisian simple stitch (tunesischer Grundstich)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Make a magic circle and work 6 sc into the ring.
  2. Inc 6 times (work 2 sc into each stitch) — you will have 12 sts.
  3. Ch 10. Beginning at the 2nd chain from the hook, pick up 1 loop from each chain and from the indicated previous row stitches as you form the petal base (pick up 1 sts out of every st).

Keeping all loops on the hook, make the return row: *yo and draw through 2 loops on the hook, yo and draw through 2 loops*, repeat from * until only one loop remains on your hook.

Don´t turn the work. Always skip the very first st at the beginning of each row.

  1. Insert hook into the stitch of the previous row and pick up 1 loop out of the next 5 stitches (to form a petal).
  2. Work the return row as before: *yo and draw through 2 loops on the hook, yo and draw through 2 loops*, repeating until only one loop remains on the hook.
  3. Insert hook into the stitch of the previous row and pick up 1 loop out of the next 9 stitches (for a larger petal), then work the return row the same way.
  4. Sc in each of the next stitches to secure the petal base, then sl st to finish the petal.
  5. Work 1 round of sc all around the flower to tidy the edges and secure the petals.

Notes and tips: Keep loops on the hook during the forward pass to maintain even tension. Skip the first stitch at the beginning of each row as instructed. Adjust the number of picked-up stitches per petal to change petal size and shape. Use a small hook and fine yarn for delicate flowers or larger materials for bolder motifs.
