Dragonfly Crochet Pillow
Materials Used:
- Lion Brand Hometown USA – Hoboken Honey (2 skeins), Key Largo Tweed (1 skein), New York White (1 skein)
- Size 9.00 mm crochet hook
- 12″ x 12″ pillow form
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Foundation Single Crochet (FSC)
Step One:
Make a slip knot and ch 2. Insert hook in the first chain, yarn over and pull up a loop. There are 2 loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through the first loop. (You have just made a chain). There are 2 loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through both loops on hook. (You have just made the first foundation single crochet stitch.)
Step Two:
Insert hook into the chain made in step one and pull up a loop. There are 2 loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through the first loop. There are 2 loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through both loops on hook. (You have just made the second foundation single crochet stitch).
Repeat step two until you have achieved the desired number of foundation single crochet stitches.
Modified Bean Stitch (MBS):
Insert hook in next st, yarn over and pull up a loop (2 loops on hook), yarn over in same st and pull up a loop (4 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all 4 loops on hook, ch 1 to complete the stitch.
Gauge:
4″ x 4″ = 5 MBS, 8 rows
Finished Size Approximately:
12″ x 12″ (panels may be slightly smaller, but will stretch to achieve a snug fit once the pillow form is inserted)
Important Note:
Traditionally, color changes are made on the last step of the preceding stitch. If I had worked this pattern the traditional way, I would have changed colors on the “ch 1 to complete the stitch” step of the preceding modified bean stitch. However, please be aware that in this pattern I changed colors on the “pull through all 4 loops on hook” step of the preceding modified bean stitch. Although this is a non-traditional approach to color changes (and quite frankly, takes a little getting used to), it makes the dragonfly graphic turn out much prettier in my opinion!

To attach the panels:
With right sides facing out, line up the panels. Attach Hoboken Honey to any corner and work a round of sc through both layers, around three of the edges, working a [sc, ch 1, sc] into each corner. Insert pillow form. Continue working sc until you have worked around the entire perimeter of the pillow, sl st to beginning and fasten off. Weave in ends.
