  • 3.5mm hook, but any hook up to about 4.5mm will do.
  • Stuffing
  • Yarn needle

row 3 1dc, (2dc in next st, 1dc) 3 times, 1dc, (11st) 1ch and turn

row 4 1dc, (2dc in next st, 2dc) 3 times, 1dc, (14 st) 1ch and turn

row 5 1dc, (2dc in next st, 3dc) 3 times, 1dc, (17 st) 1ch and turn

row 6-10 work even, (17 st)1ch and turn

row 11 change to black, work even, (17 st)1ch and turn

row 12 1dc, (1dec, 3dc) 3 times, 1dc, (14 st) 1ch and turn

row 13 1dc, (1dec, 2dc) 3 times, 1dc, (11 st) 1ch and turn

row 14 1dc, (1dec, 1dc) 3 times, 1dc, (8 st) 1ch and turn

pull yarn through to finish, leaving long end. Use this long end to sew up the ‘nose’ area of the bug. Surface crochet a line of chs or embroider down the centre of the body in black.

Working in a spiral using black:

rnd 3 (2dc in next st, 3dc) 6 times (18) sl st into 1st dc from this rnd to complete base. Pull yarn through leaving long end.

Making up

Sew spots on main body.

Sew base to main body using whip stitch, remembering to stuff before closing completely. Weave in ends.
