Base of the Sleeve

Start with a magic ring

Round 1: Make 16 double crochet (DC) stitches, substitute first DC with 3 chain stitches

Place stitch marker in the 3rd chain stitch

Join round with a slip stitch into the marked stitch

Round 2: Crochet 2 DC in each stitch from Round 1 (total 32 stitches)

Start with 3 chain stitches to substitute the first DC

Join with a slip stitch


Round 3: Increase every other stitch (1 DC, 2 DC pattern), resulting in 48 stitches

Join with a slip stitch

Base diameter after Round 3 should be approximately 6.5 cm


Base Section (Cup Bottom)

Work 4 rounds of single crochet (SC) in spiral rounds without slip stitches or chaining at the start

Round 1: Use back loop only (BLO) for all 48 SC stitches, start on marked stitch

Join last stitch to marked stitch using BLO

Rounds 2-4: Work SC through both loops, 1 SC in each stitch

At end of Round 4, join round with slip stitch


Decorative Flower Section

Color changes every round following flower petal pattern

Round 1 (Light Color):

Switch to lighter yarn after base join

1 SC in same stitch as slip stitch

Skip 3 stitches, 7 DC in next stitch (fan shape)

Skip 3 stitches, 1 SC in next stitch

Repeat pattern around

Change to dark yarn halfway through last DC of last fan

Slip stitch to first SC


For Round 2 (Dark Color):

Make triangle on top of SC from previous round (1 DC, 1 chain, 1 DC), first DC replaced by 3 chains

Make 2 chains

Make 1 SC in center stitch of fan (4th DC)

Make 2 chains

Repeat pattern around

End with 2 chains and slip stitch to marked stitch while changing to light color yarn

Round 3 (Light Color):

Slip stitch into middle of triangle space

Crochet first half of fan: 4 DC (first replaced by 3 chains) inside triangle

SC in center single crochet from Round 2

Crochet 7 DC in next triangle space

Repeat pattern around

Switch to dark yarn halfway through last 3 DC of final fan

SC in stitch marker position


Round 4 (Dark Color):

1 SC

2 chains

Crochet triangle (1 DC, 1 chain, 1 DC) on SC from previous round

2 chains

1 SC in middle of petal

2 chains

Repeat pattern around

End round with 1 chain, switch to white yarn for second chain

For Round 5 (White Color):

1 SC in first stitch

7 DC in center of triangle

Repeat (1 SC, 7 DC) pattern around

Switch to dark yarn halfway through last DC of final fan

Slip stitch into first stitch


Round 6 (Dark Color):

Make triangle on SC (3 chains for first DC, 1 chain, 1 DC)

2 chains

1 SC

2 chains

Repeat around

End with hook in stitch marker position and switch to light yarn


Round 7 (Light Color):

Slip stitch into center of triangle

Crochet half petal (4 DC, first replaced by 3 chains)

Continue fan pattern on triangles and SC stitches

Repeat rounds 1 to 4 flower pattern to create eight flower motifs


Rim of the Cup

After last flower round with green yarn, make 2 chains

Insert hook into 3rd chain space, 1 SC

1 SC in middle of triangle

1 SC in next DC

2 SC in next 2-chain space

1 SC in next SC

2 SC in next chain space

For triangle: 1 SC in first stitch, 1 SC in center gap, 1 SC in DC stitch

Repeat pattern around: (1 SC in each matching DC, 1 SC between stitches, 1 SC in DC, 2 SC in chain space, 1 SC in SC, 2 SC in chain space)

Continue 2-3 rounds of SC


Handle Strap

Work back and forth in SC

Insert hook in first stitch, 1 SC, place stitch marker

Crochet 4 more SC (total 5 stitches)

Chain 1, turn, crochet 5 SC

Repeat (chain 1, turn, 5 SC) until desired length


Attaching the Handle

Sew handle on opposite side of cup sleeve with SC

Sleeve has 48 stitches; handle uses 5 stitches per side; 19 stitches remain per side

Count 19 stitches from current position, place stitch marker

Start at 20th stitch

Insert hook through edge of base and first handle stitch, 1 SC pulling through both layers

Make 4 more SC attaching handle

Chain 1 to secure, pull yarn out, cut yarn

Hide yarn tail inside sleeve using crochet hook or tapestry needle
