Materials Needed:

  • Yarn of your choice (DK or light worsted weight cotton yarn recommended)
  • 5 mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape

Getting Started:

Foundation Chain:

Create a chain that is a multiple of 8, plus 5 to achieve the desired length of the dress.

Row 1:

Single crochet into the first five chains.

Chain 3, skip 3, double crochet into the next five.

Chain 3, skip 3, single crochet into the next five. Repeat this pattern.

Row 2:

Chain 5, double crochet into the next four.

Chain 3 (weaving over the previous double crochet set).

Skip 3, single crochet into the next five.

Chain 3 (weaving under the previous single crochet set), skip 3, double crochet into the next five.

Repeat.

For Row 3:

Chain 5, single crochet into the first five.

Chain 3 (weaving under the previous single crochet set), skip 3, double crochet into the next five.

Chain 3 (weaving over the previous double crochet set), skip 3, single crochet into the next five. Repeat.

Subsequent Rows:

Alternate between rows 2 and 3 until the desired width is achieved.

Determining the Number of Rows:

Measure the width of the fabric after a few rows.

Divide your desired dress circumference by the measured width.

Multiply that number by the number of rows in your measured set.

Ensure the total number of rows is an even number.

Joining the Last Row:

Weave the foundation chain of the last row in and out of the previous row.

Create chain links to connect the last row to the first, mimicking the appearance of three chains.

Alternate the direction of the chain links based on whether you are connecting to a double or single crochet set.

Creating the Top Border and Straps:

Make a row of single crochets along the top edge.

Mark strap locations.

Chain a length for the strap (e.g., 50 chains for 30 cm).

Attach the chain to the back of the dress.

Single crochet or slip stitch back along the chain.

Attach the strap to the front.

Repeat for the second strap.

Add an optional second row to the border.

Finishing:

Weave in all loose ends.

Add optional fringe to the bottom.

Trim the fringe.
