inc = increase stitch (two double crochets into one stitch)
Dc = double crochet
hdc = half double crochet

TIPS
- Do not join rounds—work in a continuous spiral for a seamless look, or if you prefer, join with a slip stitch at the end of each round (choose the method that suits you).
- Use a stitch marker or a piece of scrap yarn to mark the end or beginning of a round.
- All stitches are worked into both loops unless stated otherwise.
- You can use any type of yarn as long as you use the corresponding crochet hook size (check the yarn label for recommendations).
- Numbers at the end of each round in parentheses = total number of stitches for that round or row.
- Please note that US crochet terms are used.
- The pouch can be made in any desired colors.
Seamless way of changing color when working in the round
Pick up the new color at the end of the round: insert your hook into the stitch, yarn over with the new color and pull through the stitch and the loop on your hook to complete the stitch.
Front Post Double Crochet (FP dc)
Yarn over, insert your hook between the posts of the first and second stitch of the row below, and then from back to front again between the posts of the second and third stitches. Yarn over and draw the yarn around the post of the stitch. You now have 3 loops on the hook. Yarn over and draw the yarn through the 2 loops on the hook, twice. One front post double crochet (FP dc) is complete.
SHELL STITCH
The shell stitch is made by working a group of 5 stitches into a single stitch. The grouped stitches fan out, creating the look of a shell.
Rnd 1: chain 1, sc into the next stitch, slip next two stitches, work five double crochet stitches into the next stitch, skip the next stitch, sc into the next stitch*, repeat from * until the end of the round.
Rnd 2: *5 dc into the sc of the previous round, skip the next 2 stitches, sc into the next stitch, skip the next 2 sts*, repeat from *.
Repeat Rnd 2 for subsequent rounds of shell stitch.
INSTRUCTIONS (Main Pouch)
Work in rounds. You may work in a continuous spiral without joining, or join with a sl st at the end of each round—either method works.
Chain 18 stitches (wrap the chain around the phone to check fit; it should have a little ease—about 3–4 extra chains—for the phone to slip in and out easily). Adjust the number of chains if needed.
Working in a spiral without turning:
Rnd 1: hdc in the 3rd stitch from the hook and each of next 14 sts, in the last stitch work 4 hdc; working on the opposite side of foundation chain: 1 hdc in each of next 14 sts, 3 hdc into the last st. Do not turn.
Rnd 2: ch 1, sc in the same stitch, skip the next 2 sts, 2 dc in the next sc of the previous round, skip the next 2 sts, sc into the next stitch*, repeat from * 3 times, skip the next stitch, sc into the next stitch, skip the next stitch, 5 dc shell into the next stitch, *skip the next 2 stitches, sc into the next stitch, skip the next 2 stitches, 5 dc shell into the next stitch*, repeat from * twice, skip the next 2 stitches, sc into the next stitch, skip the next stitch, 5 dc shell into the next stitch, slip stitch.
Rnd 3: *5 dc shell into the next sc of the previous round, skip the next 2 stitches, sc into the next stitch, skip the next 2 sts*, repeat from * until the end of the round.
Continue crocheting in shell stitch until the desired length is reached (in this example, 25 rounds were worked).
FLAP
Rnd 1: Starting at center with a chain of 16 stitches, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each of next 13 ch, 3 sc in next ch, then working in the other side of base chain, sc in each of next 13 ch, 2 sc in next ch and 2 sc in next sc.
Rnd 2: sc in each of next 13 sc, 2 sc in each of next 3 sc, sc in each of next 13 sc, 2 sc in each of next 3 sc.
Rnd 3: sc in each of next 14 sc, 2 dc in each of next 3 sc, ch 3 (button loop), 2 dc in each of next 3 sc, sc in each of next 13 sc, 2 sc in each of next sc until the end of the round.
Rnd 4: sc in each stitch around.
Cast off leaving a long tail for sewing.
GRANNY SQUARE POCKET
Chain 5, join with slip stitch into a ring. Into this ring work ch 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc, ch 2, *cluster of 3 dc separated by 2 chain stitches* repeat 3 times, slip stitch to the top of the ch 3 from the first cluster to finish the round.
Into every chain-2 space work: *3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 1*, repeat from * 4 times.
To make your granny square larger, continue working additional rounds. In this example 4 rounds were crocheted. Work one round in sc's and finish the pocket.
STRAP
Crochet approximately 110 cm of I-cord for the strap.
ASSEMBLY
Sew the granny square pocket to the case. Sew on the button to the front and create/secure the button loop as made in the flap. Weave in all ends. Sew the strap to the pouch. Optionally add a crochet flower or embroidered details to personalize your case.
