DIY Crochet Crown Ear Warmer: Cozy Crowned Headband Pattern (Bulky Yarn)
The Crochet Crown Ear Warmer is a charming, practical accessory that keeps your ears warm while adding a playful, royal touch to your outfit. This pattern uses bulky yarn and a simple shaping technique to create a snug band with six tapered crown points. The example shown was made with Lion Brand HomeSpun (Bulky 5) and a 5.50 mm (I/9) hook — adjust sizing as needed for your head and hairstyle.

Finished Crochet Crown Ear Warmer — a cozy, crowned headband in bulky yarn.
Materials:
- About half a skein Lion Brand HomeSpun (Bulky 5) (from Michaels)
- Craft scissors
- Crochet hook I/9 (5.50 mm)
- Tapestry/sewing needle for weaving in ends
Abbreviations
- sc = single crochet
- hdc = half double crochet
- dc = double crochet
- [number] tch[s] = turning chain[s]
- sts = stitches
Notes on sizing: I measured the circumference of my head (with braids), so my example is a bit larger. Measure your own head/hair and work to that measurement. The pattern base is worked in multiples of 7; in the sample I chained 42 (6 × 7) to create 6 crown points. You can increase or decrease the number of points by changing the total chain in multiples of 7.
The Pattern (worked in rounds with joined rounds)
Creating the base of the crown:
Chain a multiple of 7 to match your head circumference (example: chain 42).
R1–R4: HDC into each stitch around. At the end of each round, join with a slip stitch (SS) and ch 2 to begin the next round. These rounds build the band/base of the ear warmer.

Base band worked in half-double crochet rounds to create a snug band.
Creating the crown points (make one point per each multiple-of-7 section):
Because the sample used 42 chains (multiples of 7), there are 6 points. Each point is worked separately across the 7-stitch section as follows:
Point shaping (per 7-stitch section):
R1: HDC across 7 sts, turn. [7 sts]
R2: Decrease to 5 HDC sts for this row, turn. [5 sts]
R3: Decrease to 3 HDC sts for this row, turn. [3 sts]
R4: Decrease so only 1 HDC remains — this single stitch forms the tip/point of the crown. Cut yarn, leaving a tail for sewing, and fasten off.
After finishing one point, insert your hook into the next stitch after the point and repeat the sequence for each 7-stitch section around the base until all points are formed.

Shaping one crown point — decreases create the tapered peaks.
Finishing:
- After completing all points, sew in all loose strands with the tapestry needle.
- For a neat edge, reinsert your hook and work one round of single crochet (sc) around the base/edges as a finishing round. Join with a slip stitch to complete.

Final product with six crown points and single crochet finishing round.
Tips:
- If the ear warmer is too loose, you can go back and add one round of single crochet around the entire band to tighten the fit.
- Adjust the starting chain (in multiples of 7) to add or remove crown points and to match your preferred circumference.
