Crochet Springtime Placemat

Materials:


— 2 1/2 oz. 4-ply worsted weight acrylic (you can use cotton if you'd prefer)
— J hook

Size: 13 1/2" across

— I crochet tight, so you may need to adjust the size of your hook
— the ch 2 at the beginning of Rnds 5 — 10, do not count as a stitch

Directions:


Rnd 1: Ch 3 (make the 1st chain a little loose), 12 dc in 3rd ch from hook. Join with a sl st to 1st dc.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in the same st as joining, ch 2. (sc, ch 2) in next dc around. Join with a sl st to 1st sc.

Rnd 3: Sl st into the ch-2 space, beginning cluster in same ch-2 space, ch 2. (cluster, ch 2) in next ch-2 space around. Join with a sl st to top of beginning cluster.

Rnd 4: Ch 1, 2 sc in same st as joining. 2 sc in each cluster and ch-2 space around. Join with a sl st to 1st sc.

Rnd 5: Ch 2, dc in same st as joining. Dc in each sc around. Join with a sl st to 1st dc.

Rnd 6: Ch 2, 2 dc in same st as joining, dc in next 3 dc. *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 3 dc. Repeat from * around. Join as before.

Rnd 7: Ch 2, 2 dc in same st as joining, dc in next 4 dc. *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 4 dc. Repeat from * around. Join as before.

Rnd 8: Ch 2, 2 dc in same st as joining, dc in next 5 dc. *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 5 dc. Repeat from * around. Join as before.

Rnd 9: Ch 2, 2 dc in same st as joining, dc in next 6 dc. *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 6 dc. Repeat from * around. Join as before.

Rnd 10: Ch 2, 2 dc in same st as joining, dc in next 7 dc. *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 7 dc. Repeat from * around. Join as before.

Rnd 11: Ch 2, 2 dc in same st as joining, dc in next 8 dc. *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 8 dc. Repeat from * around. Join as before.

Rnd 12: Beginning cluster in same st as joining, ch 3, skip next 2 dc. *cluster in next dc, ch 3, skip next 2 dc. Repeat from * around. Join with a sl st to top of beginning cluster.

Rnd 13: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, 3 sc in ch-3 space. *sc in top of cluster, 3 sc in ch-3 space. Repeat from * around. Join with a sl st to 1st sc.

Rnd 14: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, ch 3, skip next sc. *sc in next sc, ch 3, skip next sc. Repeat from * around. Join as before. End off.
