Pattern Overview

This cardigan is made of three panels: two larger panels and one smaller panel. The panels are crocheted and then sewn together to form the cardigan, with space left for armholes.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Panel 1 & 2 (Large Panels)

Determine Length:

Decide the length of your cardigan. For example, 24 inches.

Make the panel twice the desired length, e.g., crochet until 48 inches for a 24-inch cardigan.

Foundation Row:

Start with a slip knot and create a foundation using double crochet stitch.

Chain 4 and yarn over, insert hook in the first chain, pull through to have three loops.

Yarn over, pull through one loop, yarn over again and pull through two loops, repeat for last two loops.

Continue until the panel is 48 inches long.

Row 2 (Cluster Stitch):

Chain 1, turn your work.

Skip one stitch, make a cluster in the third stitch by yarning over, insert hook, pull through two loops four times, then yarn over and pull through all five loops. Chain 1.

Skip two stitches and repeat this cluster stitch across the row.

Row 3 (Double Crochet Row):

Chain 1, turn your work.

Make a dc in the first strand of the V of the sc from the previous row.

Dc in each cluster stitch and chain 2 space across the row, ensuring two dc in each chain 2 space.

Repeat Rows 2 and 3:

Continue alternating Row 2 and Row 3 until panels are the desired 10 inches wide.

Panel 3 (Small Panel)

Dimensions: 4 inches wide and as long as the desired cardigan length (e.g., 24 inches).

Assembly

Sewing Panels Together:

Align Panel 1 and Panel 2 next to Panel 3.

Sew the side of Panel 1 and Panel 2 together with Panel 3 in the middle, leaving space for armholes.

Adding Borders and Sleeves:

Add a sc border around the whole cardigan.

Crochet sleeves by creating sc around the armholes, working in the back loops for a ribbed texture.

Sleeves and Final Border

Sleeve Border (Ribbed Border):

Attach yarn at the edge of the cardigan and make a foundation of sc around the sleeve openings.

Create a Ribbed Effect:

Work in back loops only for four or more rows based on desired sleeve length.

Final Border:

Work sc from the edge of one side of the cardigan, around the neck, and down the opposite side.

Continue sc along the bottom edge of the cardigan.

Finishing

Ensure all loose ends are woven in.

Block the cardigan if necessary to ensure it is neat and holds its shape.
